Year 2020 proved to be one of the worst year taking a toll specially on travel and leisure industry due to the global pandemic. Major changes were made in the lifestyle as most of the countries imposed lockdown because the disease was spreading at a faster rate. Gyms and other fitness centres were the first one to shut their services as the news of the coronavirus outbreak propagated. After losing various clients, one of the California’s gym reopens while taking all the necessary steps.

After facing difficulty in past few months, Inspire South Bay Fitness in Redondo, California opened its door again in a very creative way. In accordance with state guidelines, Peet Sapsin, the owner of Inspire South Bay Fitness reopened his gym with a new set of individual plastic pods and also reduced the class size from 30 to 9. His recent expansion involved higher costs but this step is truly creative in the wake of Covid- 19.

With the vision of his wife, Pete Sapsin constructed these 9 pods by using shower curtains and PVC pipes in a span three days. According to Sapsin if you are standing in the middle of the pods then you’re at least 10 feet apart. Also the air conditioning is turned off the entire time and the doors are opened up as the fans push the air out. The 6 feet wide and 10 feet tall pod is closed from 3 sides. It consists bench, mat, dumbbells, disinfectant spray and everything else that you need to work out. For all the people who are still sceptical to come out there are workout videos online as well.

As this California’s gym reopens, other gym is also looking forward to come up with some new and creative workout techniques while maintaining social distancing. With the ongoing global pandemic crisis, we have to adapt our self with the new normal and come up with new strategies to lead our life smoothly. This initiative by Pete Sapsin have truly motivated the gym industry to take a step forward and think. Other businesses like salon, nail artists, tattoo artist etc. are also coming up with strategies to practice social distancing and restart their business. All these possible initiatives will definitely help to restart various sectors that have been affected by this pandemic.
