Most airlines of the Gulf region are finding it a task to keep their businesses running just like every other airline across the world. While some employers are opting for pay cuts to employees, others have been forced to do away with some employees. Well known carriers like Kuwait Airways and Gulf Air airline are offering passenger repatriation flights besides cargo-only services.

Working in association with Team Bahrain, Gulf Air airline is also contributing to the government’s fight against Covid-19. The national carrier of Bahrain has recently imported 82 tons of medical supplies from India with partner medical suppliers. As per reports, the airline has operated four cargo flights from and to different cities in India loaded with medical necessities including equipment, medications and hygienic products.

Sources claim that the Gulf Air airline operated a historic first-in-series of cargo flights to Guangzhou, China on May 27. In order to import 21 tons of medical supplies, the airline utilised all compartments of its aircraft to maximise storage space. Prior to this, the airline imported 90 tons of medical supplies from India via six flights in the month of April.

Ever since the airlines resumed services, both passengers and the cabin crew have been instructed to remain vigilant and follow all hygiene measures. For ensuring full safety of the flyers, only those passengers who are not infected are allowed to get on board. Speaking about this rule, Airbus’ President for the Middle East and Africa regions — Mikhail Houari said, “This is a global responsibility. If the passenger wants to be guaranteed he won’t get infected on a plane, the airport and airline should ensure no one infected steps into the cabin.”

Most airlines of the Middle East are currently focused at delivering cargo flights, which are acting as a boost for the stagnant revenue for airlines. Meanwhile, Qatar Airways has been running services even throughout the Covid-19 lockdown.

Moreover, it transported more than 100,000 tonnes of essential supplies and aid to help people.

While governments across the Middle East are making generous efforts to save the sinking aviation industry, contributions like the one by the Gulf Air and Qatar Airways will help the world deal with the pandemic in a better manner.
