SKYTRAX’S AIRPORT AWARDS 2020 REVEALED
Even though the world is struggling with global Covid -19 pandemic, airports are functioning with necessary measures for mitigating risks of transmission. To cheer up the airport industry in this difficult time, Skytrax revealed the best airports of 2020 in their annual World Airport Award. The Skytrax airport awards 2020 were originally scheduled to take place on April 1 at the Passenger Terminal Expo in Paris but got cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The announcement for airport awards 2020 was made through a virtual ceremony that took place live on YouTube on May 10. CEO of Skytrax- Edward Plaisted commented “Having deferred the award announcements for nearly six weeks, we felt it was now right to try and bring some cheer into the airport industry in these difficult times.”
Offering the best amenities, retail and dining options for travellers, Singapore Changi Airport has been awarded the “World’s Best Airport” fourth time in a row. On the other hand, Haneda Airport, Tokyo and Hamad International Airport, Doha grabbed second and third positons respectively. The Skytrax airport awards 2020 survey was conducted from September 2019 to February 2020in which customers from more than 100 countries participated covering over 550 airports.

With the opening of the Jewel Changi Airport in april 2019, Singapore’s Changi Airport win was absolutely certain as it was designed to connect three of Changi Airport’s four terminals to provide a number of offerings. Japan also dominated as the Four airports of Japan were included in the list of top 10 airports. Tokyo Haneda also grabbed the “World’s Best Domestic Airport” and “World’s Cleanest Airport” prizes. Hamad International Airport, Doha Skytrax airport awards 2020grabbed the third position in the Skytrax airport awards 2020 and has been steadily rising in the ranking since 2014. Being a host to FIFA World Cup 2022, Qatar will welcome lots of tourists across the world to experience the gala event thus making HIA a global hub airport.
There was other category of awards that were awarded to various airports. Paris Orly Airport received the award for “World’s Most Improved Airport”. Being a fashion capital, London Heathrow Airport was awarded “World’s Best Airport Shopping”. On the other hand, Houston Airports won the award for “Best Airport Website & Digital Services”. We just hope that these awards with help in motivating the airport industry to move ahead and serve the people in this difficult times.
