Time to Plan Your Latvia Tour as Tourism Resumes in the Land of Blue Lakes

Famous for its sprawling forests and numerous lakes, Latvia is now ready to entertain travellers from fellow EU nations and selected third-party countries. Although reopened for tourism, a Latvia tour can be possible only if you follow rules associated with quarantine and testing.

As per reports, travellers will have to go into isolation only when arriving from a country where 14-day cumulative rate exceeds 16 per 100,000 in population. Travellers from the following countries do not have to go into quarantine — Malta, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Hungary, France, Iceland, Lithuania and Liechtenstein.

Be ready to go into quarantine on your Latvia tour if you are coming from Czech Republic, Portugal, Bulgaria, Monaco, Sweden, UK, Luxembourg and Romania. Currently, Latvia is following the EU’s safe list by opening borders to all 15 countries. As per the authorities, the list is based on the travellers’ residency and not nationality.

Masks have been made mandatory for travelling to the region. Currently, many airlines including Air Baltic, WizzAir and RyanAir are running direct flights from all over the EU into Latvia’s capital — Riga.

Hotels, beaches, parks, restaurants, museums and shopping centres are now open in Latvia, which is also known as the “Land of Blue Lakes”. If you are planning for a Latvia tour, make sure you visit all touristy places at Riga. From its skyscraper-sized St. Peter’s Church, you can get a 360-degree view of the city. A visit to the gothic House of the Blackheads will surely be an added delight.

Located at the entrance of the Old Town, a significant landmark of Riga — Freedom Monument is also worth a visit. The 42 meters’ tall landmark was built in honour of the soldiers killed during the Latvian War of Independence. For a reflection of the city’s Soviet heritage giant, visit the Stalinist Latvian Academy of Sciences skyscraper.

You can also visit Sigulda for panoramic river views, mysterious caves and remote forest trails. Built in the 19th century by Russian prince Dimitri Kropotkin, the Neo-Gothic Sigulda Castle will give be a visual treat for those who love exquisite architecture.

You can consider visiting the romantic 13th century Livonian castle ruins, famous as the ‘Castle of the Livonian Order’ to know more about various historical events. If you are a music lover, head to the annual Sigulda Opera Music Festival which is organised on an open-air stage in the castle ruins.

For the fans of old wooden houses and picturesque surroundings, Kuldiga is the ideal place. Cosy restaurants, coffee shops and wine bars at this place will help you know why this place is known as the “Venice of Latvia”.

With this short list in hand, your Latvia tour will be easier to plan. Since international flights are running now, you must book those tickets! However, taking necessary precautions while travelling is still recommended.
